What VODs are

A VOD (video-on-demand) is the saved recording of a live stream, watchable on the creator's channel page once the broadcast finishes. Creators choose whether their broadcasts are saved, so not every stream becomes a VOD.

Watching a VOD debits your wallet exactly like watching a live stream, with the same bandwidth-based metering. See Wallet and Rates.

Retention

Whether a broadcast is saved is decided when it starts, from the creator's “Save past broadcasts” setting. Turning that setting off applies only to broadcasts started afterwards — VODs already saved are kept. Creators can also set an age limit, in which case saved VODs are deleted automatically once they reach it, along with any clips made from them. Otherwise a VOD stays available until the creator deletes it, or it is removed for policy or DMCA violations.

Creator controls

Creators choose whether broadcasts are saved, and an optional auto-delete age, in their channel settings. Individual VODs can be deleted there too; deleting a VOD also deletes any clips made from it.

Chat playback

Chat history is replayed in sync during VOD playback.

Clips from VODs

A VOD that is being saved can be clipped into short shareable segments. Because a clip points at its source rather than copying it, clips are deleted when their source VOD is. See Clips.

VODs are subject to the same content rules as live streams (see Terms of Service §4). DMCA notices and counter-notices apply to VODs.
